Arriving in Durham

I never thought I would see a U-haul Trailer in front of Rice Bluff, but one was there last Friday. By Saturday morning we had loaded up our clothes, pantry items, favorite cookware, electronics, bicycles and various pieces of art, all to make our new Durham house feel like home for the next six to nine months. A huge shout out to our dear friend Peter Jackson for helping to move us.

The house is located right on Ninth Street, adjacent to Monuts for those that know this Durham institution. What a crazy place! They make donuts daily, excellent sandwiches, great coffee and serve craft beer on tap! I’m supposed to be loosing weight, so moving next to the donut stand may make it a bit more challenging, especially after trying the chocolate chai donut! Rationing of one a week already in place!

No sooner had we arrived in Durham than the Covid-19 quarantine was being activated. The good news thus far is we are here and Duke seems to be continuing on with preparing me for the transplant. Certain restrictions are in place, such as number of people allowed to be with me when I enter the Duke facilities. Everyone is also screened at the clinic entrances. They are being ever vigilant, and I’m appreciative they are being so, as people with respiratory issues like myself, are at maximum risk.

Taking it a day at a time. Pre-hab starts tomorrow!

A huge thanks to Lex and Ann Alexander for providing the house for us for the duration. What a difference it makes!
